Celebrating 20, wait… 20? years?!

The numbers 2025 painted in the yellow center line of a highway that disappears into the horizon

As a 90s kid, there's just something about 2025 that hits different.

A quarter into the new century, one-fourth of it already gone, 25 years into a millennia! We're no longer dipping our toes into the  "future" as my teenaged self would have seen it, we're officially immersed in it.

Similarly, watching my little company sail into it's third decade comes with it's own set of feelings. Whereas no one would be caught dead posting their fancy hunter on "that Internet thing" when we began, there are now dozens of sales sites and countless Facebook groups dedicated to finding show horses new homes.

Indeed much has changed, and jury's still out on what's for the better. Gone are the days when you could tinker with some HTML in your down time and launch yourself a whole new career path. Instead, today's web is built on a myriad of languages, so many that development of a single site is often split into 3 different jobs: Front End, Back End and Sys Admin. There's even have a fourth job whose sole purpose is to coordinate the other 3 jobs!

Tackling a website re-build in this era is a daunting and costly task. The stories I could tell of the five years and seven (yes 7!) teams & developers I went through relaunching hunterjumper.exchange are harrowing, but for another day.

Today we'll just rejoice in a new year and with it a new blog, Bits & Bytes, where I'll explore the collision of horses and tech, potentially ramble about The State of Things, and likely toe the line between candor and "professional image".

We at HJx hope you are off to a great year and a fabulous next quarter of a century. Hopefully you'll drop back by to see what's new and chat!
